Keeper Rules & Violations

There are two methods of keepers for this league, traditional (not using the Franchise Tag) & non-traditional (using the Franchise Tag).

Select Year for the Keeper’s Report:
[ 2015 | 2016 ]
Showing Only the Keeper’s Report from the Modern Era of The League! – E.F.F.L.

Traditional –

You can keep up to four players, two offensive players and two defensive players. You CANNOT keep four offensive players only, or four defensive players only. Once your teams keepers are established, they will need to have a value attached to each one. Keeper Values will be displayed as K1, K2, K3 or K4. A Keeper 4 player (or K4) is signed with your team for the next four seasons. A Keeper 3 player (or K3) is signed with your team for the next three seasons and so on. Teams DO NOT give up draft picks for any keepers kept.

Contract players can be traded however and their keeper values will be reset upon a successful trade.

You CANNOT outright drop a player under contract. The only exception to this is a keeper with a (K0) value as that player is in a contract year and would become an Unrestricted Free Agent. Meaning if you want said player still you would need to be resigned him anyway. A Keeper Violation will be accessed to your team for any K1, K2, K3 or K4 keepers dropped outright. The Keeper Violations are below.

Non-Traditional –

You can keep up to four players, three offensive players and one defensive player OR one offensive player and three defensive players. Although, you will HAVE to Franchise Tag one of the three players on whichever side of the ball you keep three players, either offense or defense. You CANNOT keep four offensive players only, or four defensive players only.

Once your teams keepers are established, they will need to have a value attached to each one. Keeper Values will be displayed as K1-FT, K1, K2 or K3. A Keeper 3 player (or K3) is signed with your team for the next three seasons. A Keeper 2 player (or K2) is signed with your team for the next two seasons and so on. Teams DO NOT give up draft picks for any keepers kept.

With exercising your teams Franchise Tag option, your team will be faced with a decision. Both keepers with a (K0) & (K0-FT) value would become Restricted Free Agents at the end of the season. Restricted Free Agents MUST be signed to your teams maximum contract available to be kept. Meaning you will have to choose between the two players since you can’t sign both to your teams maximum contract, each team only has one maximum contract.

Contract players can be traded however and their keeper values will be reset upon a successful trade.

You CANNOT outright drop a player under contract. The only exception to this is a keeper with a (K0) value as that player is in a contract year and would need to be resigned anyway. A Keeper Violation will be accessed to your team for any K1, K2, K3 or K4 keepers dropped outright. All unsigned players will be returned to the draft pool for the upcoming draft to be re-drafted.

The Keepers Deadline has a set date. Your teams keepers MUST be in before the start of week 10 of the NFL season. A $5.00 fine will be accessed to your teams End of the Year balance unless other arrangements have been made. The Keeper Violations are below.

  • Keeper 1 Violation – Forfeiture of Tiebreakers, franchise will lose any and all tiebreakers (divisional or conference) for the entire upcoming season.
  • Keeper 2 Violation – Forfeiture of Home Field, franchise will play against the Home Field Advantage Rule, even when playing at home for the entire upcoming season (this includes playoffs).
  • Keeper 3 Violation – Forfeiture of Picks, franchise will lose their 3rd, 4th or 5th Round selection in the upcoming fantasy draft. The round selected will depend on where team finished that season. A playoff team will lose their 3rd Round selection and a team finishing last in their division will lose a 5th Round selection. By default, a 4th Round selection will be lost if the other two selector’s are not met.
  • Keeper 4 Violation – Forfeiture of Keeper’s, franchise can ONLY keep a maximum of 3 players (2 on offense and 1 on defense) and loses their Franchise Tag option for the upcoming season.
