NFL.com Fantasy Football

What’s going on everybody? I want to welcome everyone to the Official Site of The League!, TheE.L.S.I.E.com. My main focus on putting up this site is primarily for the tutorials I can provide here since I’m very limited with what I can and can’t do on the NFL.com website. Here, I can break down some of the features that NFL.com Fantasy Football has to offer and show why I chose NFL.com for our fantasy league.

I wanted to focus this tutorial on the Standings Tab where you can find most of your team and coaching stats! Obviously the picture above is of The League’s! current standings as we head into Week 7. The picture below is of the Overall Rankings where I find my Top 5 teams for every week’s League Story!

But the Breakdown, Coach & True rankings is where things can get confusing.

Breakdown Rankings

The Breakdown Rankings are fantasy football’s way of figuring out Strength of Schedule, if you will. As we see from the screenshot above, the St. Pete ConVICKS are ranked 5th in the last Breakdown Rankings. The first column is there overall win-loss-ties. They are 36-30. Follow by a Week 1 W-L-T, Week 2 W-L-T, and so on. The way these numbers are calculated are by your team’s fantasy score that week.

So for Week 1, the St. Pete ConVICKS W-L-T  record is 8-3. In that week, the St. Pete ConVICKS scored a total of 135.00 fantasy pts as we see below.

In that week, 135.00 fantasy pts would have beaten every team in The League! with the exception of Pick 6’n (165.76), DemBoys (165.52) and The Monstars (156.66). So basically, the St. Pete ConVICKS’ fantasy output would have beaten eight teams that week, and lost to only three teams that week. Hence the 8-3 Week 1 W-L-T record. So now you see that the St. Pete ConVICKS overall W-L-T record of 36-30 is not all that favorable as their week in and week out fantasy output is right around .500 when matched up against the rest of the teams in The League!

Coach Rankings

The Coach Rankings calculate the difference between who you started that week, against who you should have started that week. It’s the Monday Morning Quarterback stat that compares your Starting Lineup against your Ideal Lineup and determines who’s the best coach in The League! In this example we will once again use the St. Pete ConVICKS. As we see above, they have a overall ranking of -102.40, followed by Week 1, Week 2 and so forth. Now look at the screenshot below.

As we see, I left some serious points on the bench. At the QB and RB positions I was fine, but at WR…, where do I begin. As you can see, Miles Austin was my only decent play at that position. If I played Randall Cobb and Lance Moore (49 pts combined) instead of Torrey Smith and Wes Welker (8.40 pts combined), it would have been a swing of 40.60 pts. Even playing Cameron Wake at DL would have given me another point instead of playing Trent Cole for a full total of 41.60 pts. So my Week 1 Coach Ranking is -41.60, or the total of what my Ideal Starting Lineup would have been.

True Rankings

The True Rankings is where Record, Breakdown, Points For and Coach rankings are combined to make one final score (your True Ranking) against every other team in The League! With the best score being a twelve (for the 12 teams in The League!), and the worse being a one. Using the St. Pete ConVICKS as the example, in the screenshot above we see that the St. Pete ConVICKS have a True Ranking of 35.

For the Record column, they score a 12. The St. Pete ConVICKS have a overall record of 5-1. They are tied with the best record in The League! with I Got Sacks On Sacks On Sacks and Maclin on Your Girl, which is why all three teams score a 12 in that category (Remember, the best score is a 12).

Next in the Points For column, they are ranked fifth in The League! with 779.82 fantasy points scored this season. With 1st Place being worth 12 pts, and 2nd Place being worth 11 pts, 5th Place gives them a score of 8 pts for their Points For column.

For Breakdown Ranking, they score another 8 pts, for being in 5th Place in The League! in that category as well.

And for the Coach Ranking, they score 7 pts for being in 6th Place in The League! in that category. When you add all the totals up (12+8+8+7), you end up with a True Ranking of 35. The True Ranking is kinda fantasy football’s version of college football’s BCS Rankings.

Well hopefully this was informational for those of you that had no clue on how to understand the standings tab. Hope you enjoyed…, Late!!!
